<title>[Front endpaper map from James Michener's Novel _Hawaii_]</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10524/31841</link>
<description>The 1959 Random House (New York) edition of James Michenerʻs novel &lt;i&gt;Hawaii&lt;/i&gt; included maps on the front and back endpapers. Owing to the way library copies of this edition are typically bound, these maps are often cut in half, with either the left half (on the front endpaper) or the right half (on the rear endpaper) removed during the binding process. The scan included here reproduces the complete map on the front endpaper, which includes information relevant to the text.

<description>"1. The above titled paper is herewith submitted, attached, per your verbal request. It is, as you said, to be used to supply information for an official Trust Territory press release.&#13;
2. The paper itself is obviously too long for a press release. However I could not condense it and include all pertinent and useful information. The paper can be used as basic information for those involved in the Bikini rehabilitation." (Quoted from document cover letter.)

<title>Preliminary report - Bikini Atoll survey 1957</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10524/23041</link>
<description>"I have submitted a detailed Bikini survey log to you. This contains, as you know, complete descriptions of each island and islet in the atoll. I have also submitted, at your request, a map with the local names of these land units, coded with the presently accepted designations. &#13;
&#13;
Included in this log, which covers every day of the survey, are data pertinent to the rehabilitation of each island, the economic potential of the individual island and surrounding reefs and marine areas, and other data of significancein planning for the possible return of the former Bikini inhabitants to this atoll. These data will be included in my final report.&#13;
&#13;
The present report will primarily attempt to answer the questions posed by you and other members of the survey party. As you know, some of the important questions asked cannot be answered at this time. Additional research, interviewing, and data from the field will be needed for a complete report." (Quoted from introduction)
15, [4] leaves 28 cm. -- Includes cover memorandum from Jack A. Tobin to Dr. Edward E. Held, Chief of Party.
