Hawaiian Song Composing Contest : first annual, 1950-twenty-eight [ie. twenty-eighth] annual, 1977

Abstract

Between 1950 and 1977, the City and County of Honolulu Dept. of Parks and Recreation conducted an annual Hawaiian song composition contest. These volumes list the songs submitted to the contests, and the songs' lyrics. The full set is held at the Hawaiian Collection at Hamilton Library, and at the libraries of UH-Hilo and UH-Maui College. Portions of this set are available online here, as follows:

Volume 1 (digitized in full here) - First section: Handwritten lists of songs submitted each year, with names of composers. Second section: Typed list of the songs and composers, sorted by song name. Third section: Typed list of the songs and composers, sorted by composer. The pages referenced in the typed lists refer to pages within volumes 2-5 of this set.

Volumes 2-5 (digitized partially here) - Lyrics to the songs submitted as entries to the song contests. Some songs include English translations. Some songs lack lyrics. Volume 2: Songs with titles starting with A through I. Volume 3: Songs with titles starting with K. Volume 4: Songs with titles starting with L through O. Volume 5: Songs with titles starting with P through W, and miscellaneous others.
