"Maui Electric Company, Ltd., (MECO), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), operates an electric generating and distribution system on the island of Maui. Studies conducted by the University of Hawaii have identified various sites on Maui that have the potential of a geothermal resource. These sites have been located along the rift zones and dike areas of West Maui and Haleakala Volcanoes. (see Figure 1) This Request for Proposal (RFP) relates to the development of that resource for the production of electrical energy."
