This is a short history about the Russian Old Believers who came from China (Kharbintsy and Sinzhiantsy) to the American Northwest Pacific coast. It describes how these communities began their life in Oregon (Woodburn) and Alaska – their occupations (agriculture and fishing), family life, education and culture, how they keep Russian language and their religion (Bespopovtsy – without priests, and Popvtsy – with priests).

Russian Orthodoxy in Alaska. Having originated in the period of the Russian-American company, it continued its activities after the sale of Alaska. If it had mostly missionary function at first, then at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century the Russian Orthodoxy became the center of religious and cultural life of Russian Americans.
