Abstract: Rates for many birth defects have not been identified for native Hawaiians. Using birth defects regstry data, the total major birth defect rate for whites was found to be 4.70% and for native Hawaiians was 4.75%. After adjusting for maternalage, the rates were lower among native Hawaiians for 40 (74.1%) of 54 selected birth defects.
