Abstract: Surveys of the nursing workforce in Hawaii over the last six years point to an increasing shortage of nurses. Data trends reveal a nursing workforce that is older than the rest of the U.S. with more ethnic and gender diversity. Strategies are needed to ensure adequate numbers and levels of nurses to meet the health care needs of the people of Hawaii.
