|Abstract:||"Prompted by obligations under its Compact of Free Association with the United States, the Republic of the Marshall Islands has prepared a comprehensive new First Five Year Development Plan, 1985-1989, published as Nitijela Paper No. 1 of 1984. It's twenty well-organized chapters set out many ideas for the transformation of the Marshalls' economy. The plan's perspectives on food and agriculture warrant particular attention because of the Marshalls' serious trade imbalance and, even more urgently, because of widespread malnutrition in the islands."
