Milton Murayama Papers - Restricted
Permanent URI for this communityhttps://hdl.handle.net/10524/82054
Welcome to the restricted portion of the Milton Murayama Papers. In this sub-collection there are materials about the life and work of Milton Murayama that have access restrictions placed upon them and are not freely available to view online. The basis for restricting the contents of these documents is two-fold. First, many of these materials contain sensitive information. For instance, documents that contain private medical information such as discussions of medical histories, medical procedures, severe illnesses, and prescribed medications are restricted. There is sensitive financial information here as well regarding accounts and taxes. Lists of names and addresses, particularly those that include the names of close friends and family members of Murayama are considered restricted in order to protect the identity and privacy of those individuals. Additional sensitive information includes instances in correspondence where Murayama and his siblings go into detail about their health, financial situations, and life prospects. Second, this sub-collection contains copyrighted material. This includes parts of drafts that are longer than fragments and published reviews of Murayama’s work that are not altered through annotation.
It is worth noting that overlap of certain folders and files exists between the public and restricted sub-collections on eVols. In such cases, there exists both a “public” and “restricted” version of these files and folders. In instances where files or folders contain sensitive information, the “restricted” version contains all materials while the “public” version only has materials considered appropriate for widespread distribution online. The “Correspondence” and “Articles, Essays, Short Stories” series and sub-series on ArchivesSpace, as well as instances where there are digital partial drafts of novels, book reviews, and certificates are where this overlap occurs the most. The “restricted” and “public” versions of these files can be located in their respective sub-collections on eVols.
The documents in this sub-collection are password-protected. Access to these materials is granted at the discretion of the donor. Please contact the Archives and Manuscripts Department to request permission to access these materials.
