Abstract
Description
This folder contains a speech given by Senator Daniel K. Inouye on aid to the Contras. In expressing his opposition, he cites similar decisions by the President in the past with Vietnam and Lebanon. He says that there are lessons that the U.S. should have learned from those experiences: the importance of the support of the American people in the conduct of foreign policy, and to not dispatch troops until every possible alternative is exhausted. However, he says that the President has not kept these in mind and describes the negative effects of the involvement with the Sandinistas.
