Scale not given. 1 map : color ; 38 x 60 cm, on sheet 54.7 x 77 cm, folded in cover 19 x 10 cm. Issued by the city's Shosuido Bookstore to serve the city's large Japanese community, although it is bilingual (Japanese and English). The city is color coded, with the Chinese City (shaded green); French Quarter (grey); British Quarter (yellow); and the International Settlement (orange), while the industrial area of 'Pootung' (Pudong) lies across the Huangpu River. Every street is delineated and labelled, the lines of the city's extensive tram system are marked, while the many quays along the Huangpu River are named. Major buildings and facilities are labelled, including hotels, banks, consulates, hospitals, clubs, schools, theatres, utilities, shipping offices, major businesses, warehouses and places of worship, etc. Parks, gardens and recreation grounds are detailed and shaded in dark green. Shanghai's large 'Japan Town' was in the 'Hangkou District' (here spelled "Hangkew", located between the Soochow and Hangkou creeks, in the International Settlement, just northeast of The Bund. The map is adorned with 20 photographic views around the margins that, running clockwise from the top left corner, are: Harbour & Public Garden; N.Y.K. from Public Garden; Custom House; Japanese Consulate; Nippon Yusen Kwaisha; New Garden Bridge; Music-House in Garden; Electric-Car in Shanghai; Race-Couse in Shanghai; A Monument of Mr. Li-Hang-Chang; View of Harbour; German Club; Baby Garden; A Monument of Mr. Hurry; Public Garden; Hongkew Market; Chinese Cart; Tea-House in Native City; Tea-House in Chung-Su-Hu's Garden; and Chung-Su-Hu's Garden. On the verso he map is printed in blue-scale, with numerous advertisements, mainly for Japanese owned businesses and products, while the inside of the wallet that houses the map features a bright orange advertisement for Japanese beer.
