Bailey, Executive Assistant, Office of War Mobilization and Reconversion from Colonel Harrison Gerhardt, Executive to the Assistant Secretary of War, on an apprenticeship program and the employment of veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii. Attached are: 1) a memorandum to the War Department from General Richardson, Commanding General, US Army Forces, Pacific Ocean Areas, that a policy was established to permit employment of veterans of Japanese ancestry at Army installations (in Hawaii); 2) an earlier letter to Mr. Bailey from Colonel Gerhardt, regarding a request for a statement of policy on apprentice training for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii; 3) a letter to Colonel Gerhardt from Mr. Bailey requesting information on War Department stance on apprentice training for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii; 4) a letter to Colonel Paul Griffith, Assistant Administrator, Office of War Mobilization from Colonel Gerhardt regarding a policy on apprenticeship training for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii; 5) a letter to Assistant Secretary of War John J. McCloy from General Richardson, US Army Forces, Pacific Ocean Areas, that a thorough study is being made of apprenticeship and trainee programs (for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii); 6) a letter to General Richardson from Mr. McCloy requesting the General's views on a policy on apprenticeship training for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii; and 7) a letter to Colonel Gerhardt from Colonel Griffith, Office of War Mobilization, requesting information on the policy of the Army on apprenticeship training for veterans of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii. | |
