Map shows California, Alaska, Russia, Central Asia, Japan, China, Caspian Sea. This is one of the first maps showing the Anian (Bering) straits. From Ortelius's Theatrum orbis terrarum. Spanish [Antwerp], 1602 edition. Relief shown pictorially. Lower left "Cum Priuilegio." Text on verso: "Tartaria, o Imperio D'el Gran Chamo." Page number on verso: 108. Spanish on verso. There were 30 editions issued between 1570 and 1609, most in Latin with several in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and English. Only three Spanish editions were printed in 1588, 1602, and 1609.
