Abstract

Description

This folder contains testimony given by Senator Inouye before the House Subcommittee on Aviation in support of S. 197, which directs the Secretary of Transportation to commission an independent study to determine the quality of air conditions aboard commercial airlines, and whether the air is safe from a health and safety point of view. Inouye looks at annual statistics related to passengers and staff aboard airplanes and mentions concerns relating to this bill. Due to safety, he expresses that he wants the committee to look at insufficient air ventilation, cabin pressurization, emergency situations, air flow, and airlines' cost cutting, which could jeopardize the health of staff and passengers on airplanes and cause related respiratory or other health problems. Also included in this folder is the legislative history of S. 197 and possible items of discussion for the Senator to include in his speech.
