Abstract
Description
This folder contains materials related to 1975 hearings on Hawaiian native claims as they relate to the ALOHA (Aboriginal Lands of Hawaiian Ancestry) Association. Correspondence relates to the compensation by the Federal Government for land taken when Hawai'i was annexed, power struggles in the association and problems various members of the association had with Congress. Documents outlining reasons that Hawaiians are in need of repatriation, support from various Hawai'i counties, along with possibilities of how the act will improve life for Hawaiians are also included. There are also schedules for the hearings, a list of witnesses, testimony notes from the hearings, lists of issues that need addressing in the Native Hawaiian Claims Settlement Act, and a look at the needs for programs or aid for Native Hawaiians.
