Abstract
Description
This folder contains a speech given by Senator Daniel K. Inouye before the Admin Nomination for the Merchant Marine Subcommittee. In the speech, he explains the duties of the positions of (1) The Administrator of the Maritime Administration and (2) Member on the Federal Maritime Commission. He also explains how the government is curtailing support programs, which is causing the decline of the U.S. maritime industry. He emphasizes that the stability and integrity of the U.S. international liner trades are threatened by the practice of carriers deviating from their published tariffs, which makes it difficult for tariff filing and publication laws. Such issues would be addressed by the two positions previously explained.
