Letter from William P. Scobey, Executive to Assistant Secretary of War, to Stanwood Gertz at War Relocation Center Heart Mountain. The attached letter from Mr. Gertz indicates that he is of mixed Japanese-Hawaiian-Caucasian ancestry and had wished to join the Coast Guard but was prohibited due to his race. He indicates instead that he will join the 100th Battalion.
