This folder contains a transcription of the remarks of that Senator Daniel K. Inouye had made for the Maui County Bar Association on May 31, 1985, at the Maui Palms, Kahului, Maui. In the speech the Senator talks about the current focus on budget deficits, and the current status of Japan not opening up their market to U.S. goods. He explains the frustration behind Japan's time-consuming decision process, and that the U.S. should consider the problems behind 1) Trade Surplus, 2) History, 3) Complacency, 4) Research & Development, 5) Marketing, and 6) Education to be able to compete with Japan.
