Abstract
Description
This folder contains a pamphlet for the awards dinner for the Japan-America Society of Dallas and a statement by Senator Inouye before the Japan-American Society with his itinerary for the trip. In his statement, he expresses how proud he is to be a Japanese American and his respect for his ancestry. He shares how he learned about historical figures in Japan and America, how difficult it was to live as a Japanese American after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and how Japanese Americans were sent to concentration camps. He also mentions Japan-United States relations and essential components for this relationship, such as mutual respect for one another's economic and military power and potential for world leadership. He also points out that the military presence of the United States was necessary to maintain the present level of stability in the Pacific and Asia region.
