Shows major cities, railroads and rivers. Stars on the map showing the Soviet forced labor camps designated by MWD authorities and dots showing the headquarters. Map folded into flap covers. Includes descriptive text inside front flap. Inner cover translation: "This map shows the location and extent of the forced labor camps in Soviet Russia. Taken together, these areas would cover a territory the size of Western Europe. The American trade union federation compiled the map based on fourteen thousand sworn statements from former slave laborers. The number of prisoners is estimated at 14 million. The average annual mortality rate in the camps is 12 percent. Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko refused to acknowledge the map. When an attempt was made to present it to him at the Japanese Peace Conference in San Francisco, a Soviet representative sitting next to Gromyko snatched the map and threw it to the floor...."
