Abstract
Introduction: "One consequence of the volcanism that formed the islands of the Hawaiian archipelago is the evolution of hydrothermal activity. Surface manifestations of active hydrothermal systems are evident on the young, eruptively active volcanoes on the island of Hawaii; even on the older, long dormant volcanoes of Maui and Oahu, geophysical and geochemical evidence has been found for lower temperature hydrothermal systems. The physical and chemical characteristics of these systems span a broad range and depend heavily upon the geologic and hydrologic conditions of their formation and evolution."
