Abstract

The SOH-2 hole was completed to the total depth of 6,802 feet at 1 am on May 29, 1991. On June 9, 1991, the Tonto drillrig was released from SOH-2 and moved on the HGP-A well to assist the PICHTR research project. No drilling at any of the SOH sitesoccurred during this reporting period. Since June 13, 1991, the Tonto U-5000 rig has been on standby awaiting notification fromthe County of Hawaii that work can continue on the SOH project. The sump material at SOH-1 and SOH-2 has been analyzed to determine its suitable disposal. Based on Brewer Environmental Industries, Inc.'s July 16, 1991, results of their laboratory analysis, the drilling mud and cuttings sampled from the SOH-1 and SOH-2 sites were found to be nonhazardous. The sumps at both sites will be drained and the waste material will be used as backfill material to fill the sumps' excavation.
