U.S. Rep. Kahele congratulates the Honolulu Little League Baseball Team on their 2022 Little League World Series Win.
Aloha mai kākou!

Last month we joined all of Hawaiʻi to celebrate the big win of the Honolulu Little League Baseball Team at the 2022 Little League World Series. Their determination and dedication to the sport of baseball has made all of Hawai'i proud!

I also spoke on the House Floor in recognition of Hawaiian History Month. We are forever grateful to our patrons for inspiring the continuation of our people and our Native Hawaiian culture.

Amidst this joy, my office and I took the time to reflect on the lives lost 21 years ago on September 11th. We find strength in the heroism of those who helped their fellow Americans that day.

Now, a Native American, a Native Alaskan & a Native Hawaiian are sitting members of the people’s House.

September is Hawaiian History Month

In September, we observed Hawaiian History Month as a time of celebration, recognition and reflection.We honor individuals, like Edith Kanakaʻole, who have made a significant impact on the lives of Native Hawaiians everywhere.

It is a reminder of the lasting legacy, and guiding principles of those who came before us, so that we may find success in the present, and prosperity in our future.
Recognizing Prince Kūhiō
I spoke on the House floor to recognize Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole: 2nd Native Hawaiian to represent HI in Congress.

He is known for the establishment of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu in 1918 and the passage of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act in 1920, crucial legislation to advance Hawaiian priorities.

Recognizing Joseph Kahoʻoluhi Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu

To close Hawaiian history month, I spoke on the House Floor in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, Hawaiian language, to recognize Joseph Kahoʻoluhi Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, a Native Hawaiian nationalist leader, legislator, lawyer, newspaper publisher and painter.
Honoring King David Laʻamea Kalākaua
I spoke about King David Laʻamea Kalākaua who became King in 1874 and served until his death in 1891. He was the first Governing monarch to visit Washington and circumnavigate the globe. In 1882, he completed the construction of Iolani Palace, which still stands today on the island of Oahu. Kalākaua is fondly remembered as the Merrie Monarch.
