Abstract

This report describes human skeletal and dental remains excavated at four sites in the Northern Mariana Islands, which were sent to the Department of Anthropology, University of Hawaii, for study. Three sites are located on the island of Saipan: San Antonio, Grotto, and the Marianas High School sites. The other site, Tinian Latte House site, is located on the island of Tinian. Individual burials were identified for all the sites except San Antonio. The San Antonio site contains the disarticulated remains of at least thirty-three individuals secondarily intured in a common grave and one extended burial. The report includes a discussion of the laboratory and statistical methods utilized, detailed descriptions of the human remains from the four sites, conclusions, samples sent for radiocarbon dating, references cited, and numerous tables which summarize the metrical and non-metrical observations recorded on these remains.
