Abstract

Description

This folder contains documents and articles relating to Senator Daniel K. Inouye’s “Dinner with Dan” event. Included are invitations, scripts of speeches, letters of appreciation, a handwritten list of attendees and associates at the dinner, and a detailed outline of the event itself. Speech scripts include details of Senator Inouye’s childhood, including following the path of politics instead of medicine, his frugal nature due to poverty, his mismatched adolescent appearance and personality, as well as his enlistment into the 442nd Infantry Regiment. The rest of the speech script explains Inouye’s life and accomplishments after his enlistment, such as attending the George Washington University and Law School and then transitioning from prosecutor to politician, and then ends with people close to Senator Inouye recounting his trials, tribulations and ultimately his victory in becoming a United States Senator.
