Abstract
Description
This folder contains talking points concerning the rededication of the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. Five years prior, in August of 1991, the Environmental Education Center was touted as the feature visitor attraction, together with the historic Kilauea Lighthouse, which made the grounds a very popular visitor attraction on Kaua'i. In September of 1992, Hurricane 'Iniki devastated the islands and this place. Members of the Hawai'i Congressional delegation convinced the Congress to provide $3.6 million in federal dollars toward efforts to repair, restore, and re-vegetate the natural habitat of this beautiful landmark. Inouye also mentions the Federal government's purchasing of parcels on Crater Hill to prevent private homes from obstructing views from the Lighthouse and Environmental Center.
