Abstract

Description

A Petition to the Honorable Henry L. Stimson, Secretary of War from "undersigned parents, wives and relatives of Japanese Americans in the Armed Forces of the United States of America residing in the War Relocation Center at Rohwer, Arkansas." The list of names is not included. The Petition calls for continuing medical services until the Center is officially closed, keeping schools open until all students are able to transfer, and seeking more assistance with relocating and obtaining housing. An explanation and brief summary on the Petition outlines the War Relocation Authority's responsibilities and the current state at Rohwer with schools already closed and (drastic) curtailment of medical services. The Resolution, not dated, is from the Council on Civic Unity (San Jose, CA) on the federal government's responsibilities for resettlement of persons of Japanese ancestry in War Relocation Centers upon the closing of such centers, with recommendations for a 3-point program to include guarantees of housing and employment; a federal assistance fund for aged persons and others incapable of self-support; and augmentation of federal funds to implement the recommended program.
