Letter in reply to Secretary of the Interior Ickes from Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, commenting on Secretary Ickes objections to statements made by General Richardson (Commanding General, U.S. Armed Forces, Central Pacific Area) that appeared in The New York Times and that called for a continuation of martial law and the continued suspension of the writ of habeas corpus in Hawaii. Attached is the letter from Secretary Ickes expressing "strong displeasure" and comments on the General's statements.
