Abstract

Archival material from the Reisenji 齡仙寺. Provides insight into the daily recitation performed in a Japanese Zen temple of the Rinzai tradition.

Description

This booklet has never been published before and this 2018 digitization of the woodblock print provides the first release of this text into the public domain. The last lines include Tōrei's special signature (kamon 花文), as well as the date 1751. Here is the original passage: 寳暦辛未夏因應法弟東愚首座之需 [Written] in the summer of the first year (kanoto-hitsuji) of Hōreki, in response to a request by the head-monk Tōgu (n.d.).
