This folder holds material related to the establishment of the Hawaiian Native Claims Settlement Study Commission, that will look into the culture, needs and concerns of the Hawaiian people to repair the wrong perpetuated against the Hawaiian people. Excerpts from the Congressional Record include information on the roles of commission members, commission recommendations, the legislative history regarding Hawai'i and ways in which Hawaiians and American Indians are different. There are also memos related to the bill and confidential memos regarding how the formal hearings should be experienced in order to be effective and ideas on what activities commission members should experience while in Hawai'i.
