Abstract

This session will introduce the basics of Controlled Digital Lending for Libraries. It will present the potential as well as the planning aspects needed to implement a CDLL program for your library. The presenters will explain CDLL as it relates to Fair Use and how CDLL gives libraries the ability to expand access to their collections to support ILL, distance education, and patrons who are unable to come into the library in-person. Additionally, CDLL can provide access to special collections, library-use only, and unique materials that traditionally are non-circulating. The presenters will share their library's exploration and planning experiences to date implementing a CDLL service, provide examples of other current operational CDLL models and technical applications along with information resources to consult about CDLL and Fair Use.
