Abstract

Description

This folder contains a speech that Senator Daniel K. Inouye gave before State Farm Insurance Companies in Washington, D.C. In this speech Inouye talks about Hurricane 'Iniki and the damage that the hurricane had done to Hawai'i. Inouye also touches upon the insurance claims, programs and companies which had to deal with this disaster, and the role that insurance companies play in helping the government to shoulder the burden caused by natural disasters. He then discusses proposed legislation that insurance companies would be affected by and details changes that this bill would achieve. There is also information about the self sustaining mitigation fund, which consists of funds collected from insurance policies that offer coverage against natural disasters.
