Letter in reply to John Morgan, Treasurer, National Ski Association of America from Assistant Secretary of War John J. McCloy, regarding the Fifth Army in Italy and the challenging terrain, and possible use of specially trained units. Attached are: 1) a letter to Mr. McCloy from Mr. Morgan about the value of specially trained Mountain Troops in the mountains of Italy; 2) a letter to Lieutenant General Lesley McNair, Commanding Officer, Army Ground Forces, Army War College from J. C. Case, Chairman, Mountain Warfare Committee of the American Alpine Club, with criticisms and recommendations on the Army mountain program for training of troops for mountain work; 3) a later letter to General McNair from Mr. Case, sending earlier memoranda on the mountain training program; 4) a letter in reply to Mr. Case from General McNair about the Army Mountain Training Center; and 5) a memorandum to Commanding Generals, Commanding Officer and the Chief of Staff from the Adjutant General, War Department, about the National Ski Association of America volunteering to assist the War Department with winter warfare training and home defense.
