Lutheran minister Israel A.S. Yost (1916-2000) was a Chaplain in two notable World War II units that consisted primarily of second-generation Japanese Americans, the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

The documents in the Yost sub-community consist of materials scanned by the late Chaplain's family, who have generously provided copies of the scans to the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans' Education Center and to UH's Hamilton Library that these may be shared with the public.

Detailed biographies of Yost can be found in his profile page on the 100th Battalion website and in his biography, Combat Chaplain, published by UH Press.

More documents from Yost, including correspondence, military documents, and both wartime and post-war photos, can be found in UH-Mānoa Library's Japanese American Veterans Collection, held within the Library's University Archives and Manuscripts Department.
