This folder contains a speech given by Senator Daniel K. Inouye to the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawai'i. In this speech Inouye discusses the upcoming 1984 Presidential election, the Central America crisis, the Middle East, and the chilling of foreign relations in the East-West. He also talks about powerful companies in the U.S. that were interested in mining operations on the ocean floor in between Central America and the Hawaiian Islands, geothermal resources available in Hawai'i, and the possibility of big companies using Hawai'i as a base for mining operations in the Pacific due to its location, natural resources, and disposal sites. Besides mining, Inouye looks at ways in which various industries like tourism, agriculture, and sugar have provided work and can help keep the economy stable. This folder also contains a microcassette.
