Abstract
Description
This folder contains a Memorial Day statement by Senator Daniel K. Inouye given at the Makawao Veterans Cemetery. Inouye's remarks refer to the Declaration of Independence and the Ten Commandments as sacred words that are seldom applied as a guide to our daily lives. The speech pays tribute to the fallen comrades and heroes who fought and died upholding our nation's principles of liberty and equal justice. Inouye asks the audience not to forget the soldiers who fought in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War, and to commit to restoring the meaning of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
