| dc.description.abstract | This year, the Progressive Librarians Guild Student Chapter and UHM LIS Diversity Council partnered to launch a joint book club. Alternating between fiction and nonfiction, the book club intends to foster the entire UHM LIS community through reading, while also encouraging open, critical, and honest dialogue addressing important but difficult social issues related to librarianship. Through collaborative exploration of textual content, book club members create deeper, more meaningful connections between progressivism, diversity, and critical librarianship. The book club reads a new book every other month, and the reading list so far has included Blind Spot: Hidden Biases of Good People by Mahzarin Banaji and Anthony Greenwald; Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; Feminist Pedagogy for Library Instruction *by Maria T. Accardi; *The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas; and Haoles in Hawaii by Judy Rohrer. | |
