This response to Jacques’ paper (this volume) suggests a revision of the temporal frame of the morphological processes discussed by Jacques. It agrees on the reconstructed sequence of derivation by means of a transitivising and voicing prefix that was followed by Schiefner’s law but dates both processes to stages in the history of the Trans-Himalayan family that preceded the formation of Proto-Tibetic.
