HPS was a long-time partner in the effort and brought diverse enrichment programming to the annual gathering. This talk-story was the last formal program Auntie Nona did with HPS before her passing. All of HPS’s many programs at the IWHC (between 2009-2015) were documented by our team and are accessible through the Archive.Item type: Item , Solo Presentation Finding Aid: Nuances of Hula & Storytelling w/ Nona Beamer, 2005(Hula Preservation Society, 2022) Hula Preservation SocietyAs a Founder of HPS and a lifelong teacher, Auntie Nona Beamer anchored many of HPS’s early public programs. In 2005, HPS offered extensive programming in the 2nd Ka ʻAha Hula ʻO Hālauaola World Conference on Hula on Maui. While she was the “headliner” in this talk-story, she invited several hula friends to join her up front, including Kumu Uncle George Naope, Auntie Queenie Dowsett, haumana and fellow storyteller, Mauliola Cook, and her daughter-in law, Moanalani Beamer. All were there either attending and/or presenting at the hula conference.Item type: Item , Solo Presentation Finding Aid: The Legacy of Uncle George Holokai, 2005(Hula Preservation Society, 2022) Hula Preservation SocietyHPS offered extensive programming in the 2nd Ka ʻAha Hula ʻO Hālauaola World Conference on Hula on Maui. This program highlighted the legacy of Kumu George Holokai and started with a talk-story session with Uncle and two of his haumāna, Rich Pedrina and Puakea Nogelmeier, and ended with a workshop where Uncle got everyone up to learn one of his classic hula, Papakōlea. This Finding Aid covers the talk-story portion of the gathering.
