Abstract

After the demise of the indigenous rebellion in 1914, the Rapanui community began a campaign of active resistance against attempts to mold their ways of life to new socio-political patterns and norms. Their constant and varied practices to undermine and disregard the authority of the State and the functionaries of the “Compañía Explotadora de Isla de Pascua” (CEDIP) became significant obstacles for colonial powers, as well as marking the beginningsof the struggles for Rapanui civil rights in the 1960s.
